How would you send a "message in a bottle" to the universe? What would you say to an alien being who might one day find it?
The NASA Pioneer space mission launched two spacecraft in 1972 and 1973, each bearing a golden plaque. The images on the plaque explain to any alien being who might find it who we are, and where we come from. The illustrations were designed by Carl Sagan, and the nude images of the man and woman caused quite a bit of controversy at the time. Sagan was forced to alter the figures to make them more acceptable to the public...
The iconic figure has taken its place in human history and culture, and both plaques are currently in interstellar space on board Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11.
This full size metal replica of the original Pioneer plaque is laser etched and cut from aluminium, and measures 23 x 15 cm (6 x 9 in). Anodised aluminium is glossy, Lacquered aluminium is matte.
The image is engraved in very high detail. Even the bolt holes used to secure the plaque to the spacecraft are laser cut.
A fantastic gift for the space geek in your life, or for your space collection!

Q: What's the difference between the "metal" and "laminate" replicas?
A: Both are full size replicas of the original Pioneer Plaque. The difference is in the material.
The metal anodised aluminium replica is made of a laser cut sheet of aluminium with a thin golden layer on top. When laser etched, it reveals the silvery-metallic colour underneath. The back side is also golden. It is 1.0mm thick.
The metal lacquered aluminium replica is made of satin gold coloured aluminium, laser cut, that engraves black. It is 0.8mm thick.
Please see photo for an illustration of the different materials.
The laminate replica is made of a type of acrylic plastic that has a black layer with a golden layer on top. When laser etched, it reveals the black colour underneath. The back side is black. It is 1.6mm thick and slightly flexible.
Q: How do I clean my Pioneer Plaque?
A: Be careful not to touch the face of the record as fingerprints do show up. To clean, use a soft, lint-free cloth (the kind used to clean eyeglasses is best). This is often enough, but if you need more then use some dishwashing liquid diluted with water. Do not use harsh cleaning materials like Windex.

The quality and finish were excellent. It looks superb. Today, I took it to be framed including non-reflective glass. For me, that is the best way to display and care for it. 5 Stars.

Bought along with a Voyager record and the pair will look brilliant among my collection of Astro pictures and Apollo mission patches. Very happy with the quality of the fine detail.
